questions & answers

Our wedding isn’t until next year. Should we still book you now?

I definitely recommend it! To give you an idea, I generally book anywhere from 6-18 months in advance, and because there are only so many Saturdays in a year, I’ve had to turn down many clients in the past (which makes me so sad to do so!). Once you lock in your date with me, this allows me to turn down any other inquiries I may receive for the same date, so I definitely encourage you to book as early as you can in your planning!

What does "full day coverage" actually mean?

Because weddings are so personal and unique to each couple, I realized I was doing a disservice by limiting coverage to a specific number of hours (especially if you’ve just started your wedding planning!). By offering full-day coverage, you can plan your day based on what’s important to you, without worrying about how many more hours your photographer can cover!

Does this mean we have to use you all day?

Not at all! Most weddings run about 8-10 hours, but if yours happen to be a bit shorter or longer, that’s fine too!

Will you stay late if we're running a bit behind schedule?

Of course!

Aren’t you worried about people taking advantage of you?

Not really. I’ve been fortunate to have couples who respect my time and I rarely ever run into issues by offering full-day coverage. Plus, my couples understand that the sooner I get home, the sooner I can get started on editing their images! I’m not worried about clients inflating their timeline to “make the most of my coverage” because the timeline has to make sense for them and all of their guests as well!

Who will be our second photographer?

It’ll most likely be my husband, Andrew, as we work many weddings together! Either way, he will attend as either my assistant or second shooter. In the odd instance he’s not available, another photographer with similar experience & gear will join me.

Can we provide you with a shot list?

I personally don't recommend it, mainly because a: working from an exhaustive shot list is often time-consuming and b: it prevents us from being able to create authentic documentary-style portraiture, which my work represents. A lot of various factors go into creating a specific image, and couples who hire me prefer creating their own moments than trying to replicate ones they see on Pinterest. The only exception to this is for family portraits, but otherwise, your unique moments - not the poses - will be the focus of your images.

What is a day-after session?

Often times your wedding day may not allow you to visit a certain location for your portraits (like the Rockies, for instance!) or you may want to spend time with your loved ones instead of sneaking away right after the ceremony! Some couples who have a summer wedding may want Fall portraits, or you may want to avoid the crowds and have your portraits taken on a weekday when it's less busy. By offering a day-after session, you'll have a chance to wear your wedding attire again in a more relaxed setting and not be constrained to a wedding day timeline.

We’re eloping and just need a few hours of coverage. Do you offer this?

Yes, I certainly do! For elopements and intimate weddings that are happening within 6-8 months or less, please contact me and I’d be happy to offer you an hourly rate!

Do you travel for weddings or engagement sessions?

Totally! If you have a particular spot in mind for your engagement session, let's carpool in your ride and I'll waive the travel fee! For weddings, I normally just require flight/car rental & accommodations for 2 people, though it could be waived depending on your exact location (generally anything within 2 hours of driving distance from Edmonton won’t be charged for travel). I won’t inflate the costs, so you’ll simply be asked to reimburse me for the exact charges.

Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver: no travel fee
Rockies (includes Banff, Canmore, Jasper): 2 nights of accommodations
BC (Vancouver Island & area): 2 nights of accommodations (depending on exact location), ferry, & car rental

For all other locations, please inquire for a custom quote.

When & how will we receive our images?

Within 10 weeks of your wedding day and 3 weeks of your engagement session, I'll send you a link to your shareable online gallery so you'll receive them the minute your images are uploaded (no more waiting for flash drives!). Usually you’ll receive them much sooner than that, but I strive to only provide you with my best work, so it's worth the wait - I promise!

How many images will we receive?

This depends on a variety of factors: the # of guests attending, the type of events scheduled, and the length of your coverage. As a guideline, adding on a second photographer will yield approximately +500 images, while a typical 8 hour wedding with me as your sole photographer will yield approximately 400-500 images.

Will you deliver every image you take?

Short answer: no. Long answer: I prefer quality over quantity, as I hope my clients do too! I'd rather you have a few hundred amazing portraits than a thousand mediocre ones you have to sift through! I don't benefit from hiding good images from you so the only ones that get deleted are absolute duplicates or anything unflattering (like double chins or half-opened eyes). If there are any I'm unsure if I should deliver or not, chances are, I will.

Do we need to feed you at the reception?

Contrary to popular belief, photographers need to eat too! I've found the timeline goes much more smoothly when we're sitting with the guests (and not tucked away in a separate room) and eating at the same time as you to ensure that we're on the same page throughout your entire wedding day! Essentially, when you rest, we rest, and when you're ready, we're ready! Plus, nobody enjoys being photographed while they're eating (trust me, it's awkward for everyone). Per contract, if your wedding includes reception coverage, I request a meal for myself and the second photographer/assistant. If you have concerns about this, please let me know and I'd be happy to explain further.

Do you carry insurance?

Absolutely! If your venue requires proof of insurance, please give me at least 4 weeks notice so the appropriate information can be sent to them.

This all sounds great! How do we book you?

Wonderful! Dates are officially booked with both a completed contract and a retainer of $1,000 + gst. This allows me to be fully committed to your wedding day and turn down any other inquiries I may receive for the same date. Please note that this fee is non-refundable. I always recommend meeting for a consult first before officially booking (in person or via phone). Your photographer is going to be spending the entire day with you so you'll want to make sure we're a good match!
